Bolt has tightened its grip on Nigeria’s transport app market, emerging as the country’s most downloaded mobility platform, according to fresh insights from Sensor Tower. The latest data shows Bolt pulling ahead of competitors Uber and inDrive in the travel and mobility category.
The company, which first entered the Nigerian market in 2016 under the brand name Taxify, has expanded steadily and now runs operations in 33 cities nationwide. This growth has strengthened its position as the preferred ride-hailing service in a space marked by intense rivalry. Over the years, Bolt has gained traction by offering affordable prices, faster response times, and tailored services that appeal to the Nigerian commuter.
Nigeria is among 23 countries where Bolt leads in app downloads, revealed Osi Oguah, the company’s General Manager for Nigeria. The achievement underlines the firm’s ability to adapt to local demands and compete strongly in an increasingly crowded mobility space.
“We’re pleased that Nigerians are enjoying Bolt, but we’ve still got room to grow further and faster. We’re going to keep accelerating and expanding into more cities, launching new services where possible, and enhancing the Bolt app with new features to deliver the best experience possible,” he said.
Globally, Bolt has a footprint in 50 countries, serving over 200 million customers, and continues to roll out innovations to sustain its advantage. One of its latest additions, the “Family Profile” option, allows riders to add up to nine people under a single account, making it easier for families and caregivers to coordinate and cover trip payments. The company also invests in technology upgrades to ensure smoother rides, better security features, and improved driver support.
Its rise in Nigeria has been driven by a consistent focus on affordability and safety, while also extending services into areas that previously lacked ride-hailing coverage. The firm has also been engaging with local communities, offering flexible earning opportunities for drivers and promoting safer mobility choices for passengers.
Alongside its ride service, the company also offers scooter rentals, e-bikes, and car hire, operating across more than 600 cities around the world. With ongoing innovation and expansion, Bolt looks set to maintain its leading role in shaping Nigeria’s ride-hailing future.
