Atnesystems Energy, in partnership with Metrol Fittings Limited, has successfully delivered a 250-kilowatt-hour solar photovoltaic system at the Lagos State Multipurpose Agent Complex. The landmark project, led by renewable energy expert Tanwa Iwayemi, is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen the state’s drive toward sustainable infrastructure.

Explaining the scope of the installation in a statement on Friday, Iwayemi noted that each of the eight floors of the complex is equipped with an independent PV and battery system, providing flexibility for future expansion. She described the development as “a major step toward the Lagos State government’s goal of achieving smarter, sustainable infrastructure.” According to her, the solar solution has already enhanced critical security and communication operations by ensuring clean, stable, and uninterrupted power supply.

Despite its success, the project came with notable challenges. Iwayemi revealed that the building’s structure and open terrace roof created significant engineering difficulties. The installation of 132 solar panels required complex cable routing, transportation of heavy equipment without elevators, and careful coordination across both the rooftop and the car park array. To mitigate risks, the team adhered to strict safety standards, deploying fire-resistant wiring, personal protective equipment, and full compliance with electrical codes.

The project spanned three years, from the initial site inspection to the final system mounting, with meticulous execution at every stage. Adekunle, Site Electrical Engineer with Metrol Fittings, described the experience as “transformative.” Although his background was primarily in electrical systems, he said the project deepened his expertise in solar technology and boosted his confidence to lead similar installations in the future.

The use of bifacial solar panels, high-capacity inverters, and fire-resistant wiring has already proven effective in powering the complex’s mission-critical systems. Zglob Engineering Services Limited, which manages the advanced security and communication infrastructure within the facility, confirmed seamless performance since the solar integration.

“Our network of Cisco routers, Hikvision access systems, Grandstream IP PBX, and other sensitive equipment all demand continuous, stable power,” explained Richard Madu of Zglob Engineering. “Since the solar PV and battery system came online, we have not experienced a single disruption, crash, or delay due to power instability.”

Iwayemi, who has over two decades of professional experience in renewable energy, has spearheaded several large-scale solar PV and battery storage projects across Nigeria and beyond. She has also cultivated global partnerships with leading manufacturers and specialists, further strengthening the credibility and execution capacity of her team.

The Lagos State Multipurpose Agent Complex installation underscores the potential of clean energy to transform Nigeria’s infrastructure. With its scalable design, emphasis on safety, and proven reliability, the project serves as a model for future renewable energy initiatives. As Nigeria continues to pursue sustainable solutions to its energy challenges, the success of this project highlights both the feasibility and necessity of solar power in powering critical public infrastructure.
