European powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly come to terms with Lille to acquire the highly regarded goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, according to a source familiar with the talks who spoke to AFP on Friday.
This acquisition raises questions about the future of PSG’s Italian international goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma. Donnarumma, who delivered a stellar performance in PSG’s dominant 5-0 victory over Inter Milan during the Champions League final last May, is currently in the final year of his contract. His availability has attracted interest from Premier League clubs.
At 23 years old, Chevalier is expected to ink a five-year deal with PSG, with the transfer fee estimated to be around 40 million euros (approximately $46.5 million).
His outstanding form last season earned him a nomination for the prestigious men’s Yashin Trophy, awarded at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, recognizing the best goalkeeper in the world. His impressive displays both in Ligue 1 and the Champions League solidified his reputation.
Lille concluded last season in fifth place in Ligue 1, securing qualification for the Europa League.
