Adamawa Approves N5.6bn for Infrastructure, Agriculture, Security Projects

The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved development projects and procurements worth more than N5.6 billion to strengthen infrastructure, agriculture, education and security across the state.

The approvals were reached during the 13th meeting of the State Executive Council in 2026, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Leader Leneke, said the projects were part of the administration’s efforts to improve public infrastructure, support agricultural production and strengthen security in the state.

A major component of the approvals is the allocation of about N2.19 billion for the procurement of 36,300 bags of assorted fertilisers to support dry-season and year-round farming activities.

The council also approved N759 million for the purchase of herbicides and pesticides aimed at protecting crops and improving agricultural productivity.

The agricultural interventions are expected to support farmers across the state and contribute to increased food production, particularly as the government continues efforts to strengthen farming activities throughout the year.

In the education sector, the council approved about N1.7 billion for the construction of new office blocks for the Adamawa State Post-Primary Schools Management Board in Yola.

According to the commissioner, the project was divided among four contractors and is intended to replace ageing structures, some of which date back to the colonial era.

The council further approved N627.7 million for the construction of road networks, drainage systems, culverts and other internal infrastructure at the Mega Science and Technical Secondary School in Hong Local Government Area.

The project forms part of the state government’s broader plan to develop Mega Science and Technical Secondary Schools across the three senatorial districts.

On security, the council approved N381 million for consultancy services covering the pre- and post-construction phases of a counter-terrorism base at Gulak in Madagali Local Government Area.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening security infrastructure in an area that has previously faced serious security challenges.

The council also approved the renewal of state mining licences under the Ministry of Mineral Resources as part of its decisions during the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Adamawa government raised concerns over the possibility of severe flooding following predictions by national weather agencies.

Leneke urged residents living along the Benue and Gongola river corridors to remain alert and prepare to relocate to safer, higher ground when advised.

The affected areas include Fufore, Yola South, Yola North, Girei, Demsa and Numan.

The commissioner appealed to residents to take flood warnings seriously and urged the media to assist the government in creating public awareness.

He also reassured residents of the government’s commitment to maintaining security across the state, while urging communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to relevant law enforcement agencies.

The latest approvals reflect the Adamawa government’s focus on combining infrastructure development, agricultural support and security measures as part of its broader development agenda.
