The Federal High Court in Abuja has found Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, guilty of contempt of court over a Facebook post she made on April 27.
Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Binta Nyako ruled that Akpoti-Uduaghan violated a previous court order that restrained all parties from making public or social media statements related to her suspension case.
The contempt proceedings were initiated by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who argued that the senator’s satirical Facebook apology breached the court’s directive. Although Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team contended the post was unrelated to the case and addressed a separate matter involving sexual harassment allegations, the court disagreed.
Justice Nyako concluded that the post was directly tied to the ongoing case and found Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty. She ordered the senator to publish a formal apology in two national newspapers and on her Facebook page within seven days. Additionally, a fine of ₦5 million was imposed.Court Finds Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Guilty of Contempt
