A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has raised concerns over growing political maneuvering for the Vice President slot ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Furthermore, He warned that the early jostling could become a major distraction for President Bola Tinubu and hinder his administration’s focus on critical national issues.
In a personally signed statement released on Sunday, Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, urged political actors to tone down the 2027 politicking, emphasizing that premature power struggles could have adverse effects on governance and the economy.
“Some individuals are already campaigning to be the next Vice President. This is not only premature but a distraction from the pressing tasks facing the President—reviving the economy, combating insurgency, and addressing neglected infrastructure,” he said.
He further noted that President Tinubu, upon assuming office in 2023, inherited a challenging economic situation marked by high debt, a volatile currency, and the burden of unsustainable fuel subsidies.
“Distracting him with succession politics and political ambitions for 2027 or even 2031 is both absurd and unhelpful. What Nigeria needs now is unity, support, and focus, not opportunistic power tussles,” Oyintiloye added.
He described the political noise around the VP slot as “nauseating” and counterproductive, stressing that with over a year and a half until the next election, political stability and good governance should be the top priority.
“The President must be allowed to govern without undue distractions. Politicians should channel their energies toward supporting the administration for the benefit of the country,” he concluded
