The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has expressed strong support for the Minister of
Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, describing him as a transformative
figure in the aviation sector. In a press statement signed by AON Vice President, Allen
Onyema, the association referred to Keyamo as “God-sent” to Nigeria’s aviation industry,
commending his proactive leadership and reform-oriented agenda since assuming office in
August 2023.
The statement emphasized that Keyamo’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu was a
strategic and commendable decision, describing the President as “a genius” for placing the
right individuals in critical national roles. “Love him or hate him, believe it or not, Festus
Keyamo is absolutely God-sent to Nigeria’s aviation industry. The appointment of Keyamo is
one made right,” the statement read.
AON praised the Minister’s dedication to revitalizing the industry, particularly his focus on
enhancing the sustainability and growth of domestic airlines. One of the key pillars of his
five-point agenda, according to AON, is the strong support for local airline operators while
ensuring that Nigeria’s aviation industry adheres to the highest global standards. The
operators believe this approach is critical to restoring confidence and long-term viability in
the sector.
The group praised Keyamo for showing “uncommon political will” and a clear understanding
of the distinct challenges facing local airline operators.
“The Minister has successfully repositioned Nigeria’s aviation industry and enhanced the
country’s standing globally,” the statement read. “In the weeks ahead, Nigerian airlines will
begin taking delivery of vital dry-leased aircraft an important step that will allow operators to
expand their fleets more affordably and efficiently.”
The association also thanked President Tinubu for his continued support of the Minister’s
efforts and for “entrusting him with the directive to advance the interests of local airlines.”

The statement further praised the Federal Government for its proactive approach in tackling
the capacity challenges facing local airlines. Rather than criticizing them for their limitations a
pattern the association said was common in the past the government is now focused on
finding practical solutions. This shift, according to the Airline Operators of Nigeria, marks a
significant departure from previous administrations and demonstrates genuine leadership
and a patriotic, pragmatic mindset. The group emphasized that this new attitude not only
supports the growth of the local aviation sector but also encourages collaboration and
progress within the industry for long-term sustainability and competitiveness.
