Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent mass killings in Benue State, accusing him of failing in his primary duty to protect Nigerians.
In a post shared on X on June 16, 2025, Falz expressed deep frustration over the continued insecurity in the country, calling out the government’s repeated negligence.
“You have consistently shown that you are incapable of performing the primary duty of securing the lives and property of your citizens. This routine statement does not cut it,” he wrote.
Falz’s reaction follows the killing of over 200 people in parts of Benue State, reportedly by suspected herdsmen. The attack has sparked national outrage and widespread criticism of the government’s delayed response.
After being called out online for staying silent, President Tinubu took to X to address the tragedy, writing:
“I have been briefed on the senseless bloodletting in Benue State. Enough is enough! I have directed the security agencies to act decisively, arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict, and prosecute them.”
He also urged political and community leaders in Benue to avoid statements that could increase tensions, calling on Governor Alia to lead peace and reconciliation efforts.
“Peace is possible when leaders work together in harmony, and differences are addressed with fairness, openness, and justice,” the president added.
Despite his statement, many Nigerians, including Falz, continue to criticize the president for speaking up only after international figures like the Pope addressed the killings.
