Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has joined the growing national outcry for peace and justice following the recent massacre in Benue State. In an emotional open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Edochie appealed for urgent action to address Nigeria’s deepening security crisis and economic hardship.
The tragic attack, which occurred in the Yelewata community, claimed the lives of over 250 residents in a brutal night raid by suspected herdsmen. Eyewitnesses described scenes of terror as gunmen surrounded the village, set homes on fire, and opened fire on sleeping families—destroying homes, livelihoods, and a year’s worth of harvests.
On June 16, 2025, Edochie took to his Instagram page to address the president directly, writing:
“Your Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, @officialasiwajubat, Nigerians do not hate you—they hate the situation they find themselves in: the hardship and insecurity that plague the country.”
While acknowledging some of the administration’s strides in infrastructure and policy, Edochie emphasized that these efforts mean little if citizens continue to live in fear or struggle to meet their basic needs.
“Your Excellency, you’ve made progress in infrastructure and introduced promising policies. But until insecurity and the high cost of living are tackled, Nigerians will remain in pain. Address these issues, and your name will be written in gold in the hearts of the people.”
Edochie’s message comes amid nationwide mourning over one of the deadliest attacks in recent memory. In response to mounting public pressure, President Tinubu has pledged to visit Benue State on Wednesday, following heavy criticism over the government’s initial silence.
