The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating flood that struck Mokwa Local Government Area in Niger State, resulting in the loss of numerous lives and destruction of property worth millions of naira.

In a statement released on Friday and signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq, the forum said it was “shocked by the magnitude” of the disaster. At least 21 people have reportedly died in the flooding incident.

Governor AbdulRazaq extended the forum’s condolences to Niger State Governor Usman Bago, and the affected families, emphasizing the need for urgent humanitarian response and climate resilience efforts.

“We stand in solidarity with the government and people of Niger State. We commend the swift interventions of the state government and emergency services in supporting affected communities,” the statement read.

He further called for stronger collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to strengthen disaster preparedness and climate mitigation strategies.

The NGF also urged citizens to cooperate with relief agencies and support ongoing government efforts aimed at minimizing the impact of climate-related disasters.
