The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone A, Ikeja, intercepted 82 Tokunbo vehicles and other contraband worth N1.7bn in the past four weeks.
Controller Kola Oladeji disclosed this during a press briefing in Ikeja on Wednesday.
He reported that the contraband was seized across southwestern Nigeria, including the Oyo and Ogun border axis, with six suspects arrested for smuggling from neighboring countries.
Oladeji further revealed that the confiscated items included 3,832 bags of foreign rice, equivalent to seven trailer loads.

He pledged that the unit would continue enforcing the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 on imports and exports to prevent revenue losses.
Oladeji stressed that their successes were hard-earned.These seizures resulted from the tireless efforts of our officers, who spent hours on patrol and border surveillance. I reaffirm that we will not back down. Our commitment to tackling illegal cross-border trade and other crimes remains steadfast, he stated.
He affirmed that, in line with the NCS’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration, the seized 3,643kg of cannabis sativa would be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution.
Oladeji stated that their operation, dubbed ‘Swift Sting Operations,’ has consistently recorded significant success in combating smuggling.
He noted that the unit has adopted the CGC’s initiatives by merging some patrol teams in Lagos to reduce trade obstacles and foster a business-friendly environment.
