Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced plans to lead a coalition of opposition parties against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. This move aims to unite opposition forces and challenge Tinubu’s presidency.
Atiku confirmed the formation of the Coalition of Opposition Political Parties during a press conference at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. He described it as the “birth of the coalition of opposition ahead of 2027.”
Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for Atiku’s presidential campaign, also hinted at the coalition’s formation. He stated that the coalition would be strong
enough to challenge Tinubu’s presidency and that Atiku would likely contest again in 2027.
Bwala emphasized the need for opposition parties to work together, citing Tinubu’s strategic actions to weaken opposition parties. He believes that a united opposition coalition can overcome these challenges and provide a strong challenge to Tinubu’s presidency.
The coalition’s plans are still unfolding, but Atiku’s announcement marks a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape. As the 2027 elections approach, the opposition coalition’s strategy and effectiveness will be closely watched.
