The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has initiated an immediate reshuffle in the Nigeria Police Force, posting seven new Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to key positions and appointing 18 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to AIG roles, pending approval from the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Among the notable changes, the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Tunji Disu, renowned for his crackdown on the illegal manhole and government infrastructure theft syndicates, has been appointed as the new AIG of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) at the police headquarters.
A statement from Force Headquarters explained that this significant reshuffle is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of the force, ensuring its readiness to meet national security challenges.
The new AIGs include AIG Margaret Ochalla, who will now lead the AIG FCID Annex in Lagos; AIG Abayomi Peter Oladipo, heading AIG Zone 13 in Ukpo; AIG Fred Ekokotu, overseeing AIG Zone 11 in Osogbo; AIG Iwo Nemi Edwin Osigboka, responsible for the AIG Border Patrol Force at Force Headquarters in Abuja; AIG Garba Ahmed, assigned to the Department of Training and Development (DTD) at Force Headquarters; AIG Salman Dogo, taking over AIG Zone 5 in Benin; and AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, who will head AIG Zone 9 in Umuahia.

Police spokesman ACP Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed that these strategic postings are aligned with the IGP’s goal to reform and strengthen the police force. IGP Egbetokun has urged all newly appointed officers to fully embrace their responsibilities and serve with dedication, ensuring they contribute to the ongoing transformation of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The IGP expects these senior officers to exemplify outstanding service in their new roles and to support the continuous police reforms,” ACP Adejobi said. “These deployments are crucial to improving national security and enhancing service delivery.”
