Chief David Edochie Onuora, the President of Anamnet Group of Companies Limited, has called on the people of Anambra State to lend their support to security agencies in order to curb kidnapping and other criminal activities. During his recent defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Onuora emphasized the importance of community involvement in securing the state.
He highlighted that law enforcement agencies cannot effectively combat crime without vital information from local residents. Onuora stressed that ensuring security is a collective responsibility, vital for safeguarding lives and properties in the region.
The prominent leader also criticized the Federal Government, accusing it of neglecting citizens’ security. He claimed that security issues have not received adequate attention, warning that no nation can prosper under such conditions. He urged the government to prioritize security for the overall wellbeing of the nation.
Onuora’s decision to join APGA, he explained, stemmed from his desire to support Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for development, especially in his hometown of Anambra West Local Government Area. He believes that improving infrastructure will foster economic growth and address transportation challenges not only in Anambra but also across Nigeria.
He also pointed out the need for a shift in the mindset of elected officials and political appointees, warning against viewing government positions as opportunities for personal enrichment. According to Onuora, such practices hinder the country’s growth, and it is time for this to change.
The businessman and community leader advised Nigerian politicians to focus on skill development and entrepreneurship, warning that without sustainable sources of income, many former officials would face financial difficulties post-office.
Onuora further attributed the nation’s current economic troubles to rampant criminal activities and a lack of patriotism among the ruling elite. He called for a change in attitude among citizens, urging a collective effort toward building a more ethical and prosperous nation.
On the topic of education, Onuora expressed concern over the state of Nigeria’s education system, which he claimed receives the smallest portion of the national budget. He stressed the importance of investing in education, advocating for significant reforms and increased government spending to improve the sector.
