Former President Muhammadu Buhari has made his way back to his residence in Kaduna after spending almost two years in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, where he had settled following his exit from office in May 2023.
Bashir Ahmad, one of Buhari’s former media aides, shared the news on X yesterday. He explained that after completing his two terms in office, Buhari chose a quiet life in Daura, staying mostly out of political matters and focusing on personal activities.
Accompanying Buhari on his return were Vice President Kashim Shettima and several notable figures, including Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, current and former deputy governors of Katsina, former Inspector General of Police, ex-ministers, and various personal aides.
Buhari had missed two major events in the past week. His absence from the book launch of General Ibrahim Babangida’s autobiography was reportedly due to ongoing tensions related to the 1985 coup that removed him from power.
As for his absence from the APC NEC meeting last Wednesday, Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, clarified that the invitation to the meeting was received late. “The invitation was sent on Monday and reached him on Tuesday, which made it impossible for him to attend even with his private jet,” Shehu explained.
Last month, Buhari revealed that he has been sustaining himself by renting out one of his two houses in Kaduna.
