The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has dismissed rumors circulating on social media about a rift between its Managing Director, Samuel Ogbuku, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The commission described the claims as misleading and mischievous. The statement, issued on Monday and signed by NDDC spokesperson Seledi Thompson-Wakama, clarified that there is no conflict between Ogbuku and Wike.
The NDDC emphasized that the Managing Director shares a very cordial relationship with the FCT Minister and other key stakeholders in the Niger Delta region. The statement further refuted claims of any discord within the NDDC or disputes over the Managing Director’s position, attributing the rumors to those seeking to sow division within the commission. The report also sought to involve other prominent figures, such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in the fabricated dispute.
The NDDC reiterated that the current leadership, under Ogbuku and the Board Chairman, Chiedu Ebie, is committed to delivering innovative policies and improving the region’s development. The commission accused certain individuals of attempting to destabilize the NDDC’s progress and derail the board’s initiatives. These individuals, according to the statement, are also peddling false rumors about the tenure of the NDDC board.
The commission clarified that the current NDDC board was appointed for a four-year term starting on August 29, 2023. It further highlighted that Ogbuku’s reappointment for another four-year term is in full compliance with the NDDC Establishment Act, which allows for reappointment after the first term.
The NDDC urged the public to ignore the false reports and support the ongoing efforts to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the commission. The statement concluded by urging stakeholders and citizens who are dedicated to the development of the Niger Delta region to remain focused on the positive work being done, instead of being distracted by those attempting to undermine progress.
