The Nigeria Police Force has detained an officer seen in a viral video abusing the naira alongside Wahab and Raheem, sons of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya. According to Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the officer’s actions are “unethical and contrary to the values of the force” .
Adejobi stated, “The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the Lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action.” He emphasized that the officer’s involvement has been condemned, adding, “We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police. Thanks.”
The viral video, which surfaced last week, shows Wahab and Raheem Okoya flaunting stacks of crisp N1000 notes to promote Raheem’s new song, “Credit Alert”. The mobile policeman is seen holding bundles of N1000 notes while the billionaire’s sons dance and fling the cash into the air. The video has sparked widespread criticism, with many expressing concerns that the Okoya sons may not face consequences due to their father’s influence.
The police force’s decision to detain the officer has been met with mixed reactions, with some praising the move as a step towards accountability and others questioning why the Okoya sons have not faced similar consequences.
