A 25-year-old Zimbabwean woman, Blessing Chiromonyo, has been arrested and charged with murder following the alleged killing of her two children.

The tragic incident occurred on January 8, 2025, at a water canal in Triangle, Masvingo. Reports revealed that the woman’s actions were motivated by suspicions of infidelity by her husband.

According to a police statement posted on X, Blessing Chiromonyo took her two daughters, aged 3 and 7, to a canal, where she attempted a murder-suicide by jumping into the water with them. The strong currents carried the children away, resulting in their drowning, while Chiromonyo escaped unharmed. Preliminary investigations suggest the tragedy was sparked by a domestic dispute, with Chiromonyo accusing her husband of infidelity, leading to a heated argument.

Following a heated argument, neighbors reported hearing loud voices before the situation tragically unfolded, resulting in the loss of the two young children.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and Blessing Chiromonyo remains in custody, facing murder charges as legal proceedings move forward.

The devastating incident has sent shockwaves through the Masvingo community, sparking crucial conversations about mental health, family dynamics, and conflict resolution. In response, community leaders and authorities are urging residents to seek help and counseling during domestic disputes, emphasizing the importance of finding alternative solutions to violence.
