Pakistani authorities have taken two teenage sisters into custody for allegedly murdering their father by setting him ablaze, on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Gujranwala, Punjab, on January 1, and the father died in the hospital on Tuesday.
According to Rizwan Tariq, a senior police official in Gujranwala, the sisters decided to find a permanent solutionto their situation. They allegedly poured petrol from a motorcycle on their sleeping father and set him on fire.
The sisters, who are step-sisters, claimed that their father had subjected the elder sister to rape for over a year and had attempted to rape the younger sister twice.
Their mothers who are married to the alleged abuser, were aware of the abuse but had no knowledge of the girls’ plan for revenge. Inorder to protect the sisters’ identities, AFP has chosen not to name the father.
Authorities have arrested one of the wives and are questioning the other and Tariq revealed that they plan to present them in court within the next few days, once theirinvestigation is complete.
