An explosion at an Islamiyyah school in Kuchibiyi, a community within the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has claimed the life of one student and left four others in critical condition.
The unfortunate event occurred around midday on Monday, January 6, 2025, causing widespread panic in the community, which is situated about 42 kilometers from the heart of Abuja.
Emergency services, including a police bomb squad, responded swiftly to the scene, and the injured were immediately transported to a nearby medical facility for urgent care.
Preliminary findings suggest that the deceased student may have been in possession of an object believed to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when it detonated.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. Attempts to contact the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, have so far been unsuccessful, as calls and messages have gone unanswered.
