The prices of electricity meters in Nigeria have been increased by the Distribution Companies (DisCos), effective November 5, 2024.
According to the DisCos’ social media platforms, the price of a single-phase meter has risen from approximately ₦117,000 to ₦149,800, depending on the DisCo and meter vendor.
The prices vary across different DisCos:
Eko DisCo: ₦135,987.5 – ₦161,035 (single-phase), ₦226,600 – ₦266,600 (three-phase)
Ibadan DisCo: ₦130,998 – ₦142,548 (single-phase), ₦226,556.25 – ₦232,008 (three-phase)
Abuja DisCo: ₦123,130.53 – ₦147,812.5 (single-phase), ₦206,345.65 – ₦236,500 (three-phase)
Kano Electricity Distribution: ₦127,925 – ₦129,999 (single-phase), ₦223,793 – ₦235,425 (three-phase)
Kaduna DisCo: ₦131,150 – ₦142,548.94 (single-phase), ₦220,375 – ₦232,008.04 (three-phase)
This price increase follows the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) deregulation of meter prices under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme. The deregulation allows DisCos and meter vendors to set prices based on economic realities.
The move aims to address metre supply and pricing issues, ensure metre availability, and help investors recover their investments.
