Kaduna State Governor, Sani Uba, has given a helping hand to 39 protesters released from prison, providing each with ₦100,000 (approximately $250) and a smartphone.
The governor also promised rehabilitation and empowerment to help the protesters rebuild their lives. The rehabilitation plans include job training and employment opportunities, start-up capital for businesses, medical check-ups, counseling, and skills training for better job prospects.
Governor Uba’s administration will monitor the protesters’ progress to ensure they stay on the right path.
The protesters were arrested during the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations in August, which began peacefully but turned violent in some areas. The Federal Government charged 76 protesters, sparking outrage when minors were identified among them. President Bola Tinubu intervened, leading to the release of the minors.
Governor Uba emphasized his commitment to supporting the released protesters, stating, “We want to help you start anew. Turn your lives around, and we’ll support you.”
The Kaduna State Government has collected contact information, including addresses, phone numbers, and next of kin details, for easy monitoring.
Islamic and Christian religious leaders have also preached to the released protesters, encouraging them to embrace the teachings of their faiths and avoid bad company to benefit from God’s blessings.
This gesture by Governor Uba aims to promote peace and stability in Kaduna State.
