Transportation expenses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are about to surge significantly, following an increase in petrol prices by some outlets of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in Abuja on Wednesday.
NNPCL stations in the FCT have now raised the price of petrol to N1,030 per litre from N897, as observed by our correspondent across several locations.
This new price, the second hike within a month, marks a 14.8% increase, which translates to an additional N133 per litre.
At the NNPCL mega station in Central Area, one customer shared their frustration with PUNCH Online, revealing that the fuel was being sold for N1,030. However, the station did not display prices on its signboard or the pump meter, leaving customers uninformed until they were told by fuel attendants.
“I’m really upset right now. I came here hoping their price would be better. After queuing for so long, it was only the fuel attendant who told me the price had jumped to N1,030,” the customer, who chose to remain anonymous, explained.
Meanwhile, checks at independent marketers’ stations, like Conoil and Total Energies, near the NNPCL headquarters, showed that petrol was selling for N926 per litre, but long queues were still observed.
