Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has sanctioned a reduction in the number of working days for public servants each week to help mitigate their transportation expenses. Additionally, he announced that palliative payments to public workers would be extended for the next two months.
A statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo on Tuesday, confirmed that the approval was detailed in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service. The statement highlighted that this decision reflects Adeleke’s commitment to the welfare of the state’s workforce and is a direct response to the current economic challenges in the country.
The statement reads, “Through this circular, and until further notice, the work schedule for public servants in the state is as follows: civil servants from GL.01 to GL.10 are to work three days a week, while those from GL.12 to GL.17 are to work four days a week.”
The circular also emphasized that those performing essential duties, such as healthcare professionals, security personnel, political office holders, and accounting officers, are exempt from this arrangement. “The specific days each public servant will work will be determined by accounting officers in the various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government,” the circular further noted.
The statement concluded by adding, “The governor has kindly approved the extension of palliative payments to public servants for the next two months, pending the implementation of the new minimum wage. All accounting officers in Ministries, Departments, government agencies, and Local Governments are instructed to comply with this directive.”
