The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has suspended Jamilu Ibrahim, a Court Registrar in the Shari’a Court Department, along with several associates involved in accepting illicit funds from a fraudulently obtained writ of possession for the sale of two plots of land.
This information was shared by the Kano Judiciary’s spokesman, Jibo Ibrahim, during a press briefing on Friday.
He noted that the Commission reached this decision during its 75th meeting on September 12, 2024.
According to Jibo, an investigative committee formed by the JSC uncovered evidence implicating Ibrahim and others in the misconduct.
While the committee recommended Ibrahim’s dismissal, the Judicial Service Commission opted to suspend him indefinitely without pay until the conclusion of his trial in a Magistrate Court.
Additionally, Zubairu Sulaiman, Registrar of the Upper Sharia Court, was found to have received one million naira as a sales commission in his personal account for the land sale.
“The Judicial Service Commission, following the investigative committee’s recommendations, has suspended Sulaiman for four months without pay,” Jibo stated.
He emphasized the Commission’s commitment to enforcing appropriate disciplinary measures against any staff who violate regulations, particularly those in judicial roles, in order to maintain the integrity and trustworthiness of the Judiciary. Jibo confirmed that the suspended individuals are all Registrars in the Shari’a Court Department.
