Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has embarked on a mission to dissuade Abuja youths from participating in the planned nationwide protests against hunger and hardship, scheduled for August 1-10. During a ministerial engagement with FCT youths from Abuja South Federal Constituency on Sunday, Wike emphasized the negative consequences of protesting and encouraged the youths to support the current administration.
Wike argued that the government, barely a year in office, deserves more time to prove itself, citing achievements in education, health, and security. He expressed gratitude to traditional rulers and area council chairmen for mobilizing youths for the interaction, aimed at enlightening them against joining a protest that may not serve their interests.
The minister emphasized the importance of peace in FCT, stating, “We want peace in FCT and cannot fold our hands and allow it to be destroyed in the guise of protest.” He also provided updates on the proposed Federal Capital Territory University of Science and Technology, Abaji, and addressed land matters, stressing the need for development over land allocation.
Wike urged youths to cooperate with the government and avoid the planned protests, which he believes are organized by individuals with unclear agendas. This engagement is part of a broader effort to discourage citizens from participating in the nationwide protests.
