The Delta State Police Command has reported the arrest of individuals suspected of armed robbery and involvement in cult activities in Oghara, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to SP Bright Edafe, the Command’s spokesperson, this was disclosed in a statement released on Monday in Asaba. Additionally, they have recovered an AK-47 magazine.
He stated, “Following a series of cult-related activities, kidnappings, and armed robberies in Sapele, Oghara, and surrounding areas, Commissioner of Police Delta State, Olufemi Abaniwonda, instructed a specialised team to collaborate closely with the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of Oghara and Sapele to address these issues.
“On June 18, 2024, ASP Julius Robinson led a covert intelligence operation that targeted three separate syndicates of suspected armed robbers and cultists in various locations within Oghara Town, Ethiope East LGA of Delta State. The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects: Ochuko Joel Ofoye, aged 35, from Jeddo Community in Okpe LGA Delta State, known to be a member of the Juris Confraternity, and Michael Anwul, aged 29, from Alisimie Community in Agbor, Ika South LGA Delta State, also associated with the Juris Confraternity.”
Edefe mentioned that among the other suspects were Great Ojareri, aged 35, from Oghareki Community in Ethiope West LGA Oghara Delta State, affiliated with the Eiye Confraternity and found in possession of firearms, as well as Innocent Esefeta, aged 31, from Efisere Community in Ughelli North LGA Delta State, and Ogaga Ebuke, aged 27, associated with the Juris Confraternity.
He added that during the operation, law enforcement recovered two AK-47 magazines, 29 rounds of live ammunition, and a locally made pistol containing one live cartridge hidden in a shoe.
Edefe stated that the suspects were currently detained while investigations continued.
