Ebonyi NDC Candidate Praises Obi’s Leadership, Backs His 2027 Presidential Bid

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Ebonyi Central, Prof. Ifeanyi Odoh, has expressed strong support for the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as a leader whose record and style of governance have continued to earn public admiration across the country.

Odoh made the remarks during a town hall meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, where he formally informed supporters that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had recognised him as the NDC candidate for the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District following the successful upload of his name on the commission’s portal.

Speaking to party members and supporters, the senatorial candidate said it would be difficult to fault Obi because of what he described as the former Anambra State governor’s record of public service, accountability and prudent management of public resources. According to him, Obi has consistently demonstrated leadership qualities that distinguish him from many contemporary politicians.

Odoh maintained that Nigeria requires leaders with integrity, competence and a clear vision for national development. He argued that Obi possesses these qualities and has continued to present practical solutions to many of the country’s economic and governance challenges.

The NDC candidate also urged supporters to remain united and committed to the party’s objectives ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said victory would depend on sustained grassroots mobilisation, peaceful campaigns and active participation by party members across the country.

According to him, the recognition of his candidacy by INEC marks an important milestone for the party in Ebonyi State. He assured supporters that he would focus his campaign on issues affecting the people of Ebonyi Central, including infrastructure development, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and economic opportunities.

Political observers say Odoh’s endorsement of Obi reflects the growing efforts by NDC candidates to strengthen support for the party’s presidential campaign while building momentum for legislative contests in their respective states. They noted that endorsements from party candidates often form part of broader campaign strategies aimed at presenting a united political platform.

Analysts also believe that Obi’s reputation for fiscal discipline and governance continues to feature prominently in discussions among his supporters, while his critics maintain that voters should evaluate all candidates based on their plans and ability to address Nigeria’s complex national challenges.

As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, major parties have continued consultations, grassroots mobilisation and strategic engagements designed to expand their support base across the country. The coming months are expected to witness increased political campaigns, policy debates and interactions between candidates and voters.

Meanwhile, stakeholders have continued to call on political parties to conduct peaceful campaigns and focus on issues that directly affect citizens. Civil society organisations have also urged candidates to promote issue-based politics, respect democratic institutions and avoid inflammatory statements capable of heightening political tension.

With preparations for the next general elections gathering momentum, political analysts believe voter expectations will increasingly centre on economic recovery, security, job creation and improved governance. They say candidates who present practical solutions and maintain close engagement with the electorate are likely to attract greater public attention as the campaign season progresses.
