After winning the first Jamaica Athletics Invitational in Kingston with a lightning-fast time of 12.40 seconds, world record holder Tobi Amusan is the fastest woman in the women’s 100-meter hurdles this year, finishing ahead of world champion and Jamaican Danielle Williams.
Reigning world champion Williams and America’s Nia Ali trailed Amusan for the majority of the race, but in the last stages, Amusan pulled away, breaking the previous world record of 12.42 seconds established by Tonea Marshall on April 20.
Christina Clemens of the USA placed third in 12.54 seconds, behind Williams in second place with a time of 12.46 seconds.
Yanique Thompson, another Jamaican athlete, placed fourth in 12.59 seconds, while Ali finished in fifth place with a time of 12.65 seconds.
Amusan chose to attend the Jamaica Invitational over the Doha Diamond League, along with several other well-known sportsmen.
The Nigerian shut down her detractors after her lackluster performance at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, where she finished fifth and lost to Williams, by winning the Diamond League in Eugene, Oregon for the third time in a row.
