Managed by APM Terminals (APMT), the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) has announced the formal launch of a new four-lane in-gate facility in Onne Port Rivers State, Nigeria. WACT plans to significantly lift standards of efficiency and security as a result of this new development.

With the completion of a new container freight station (CFS) on-terminal, WACT’s goal of serving as the gateway to Eastern Nigeria and beyond is one step closer with this investment.

The new in-gate is a component of WACT’s $115 million investment in a terminal upgrade project.

WACT claims that it offers an extensive range of logistical solutions to support Nigerian businesses and boost overall port efficiency, in line with the Federal Government’s initiatives to make doing business in Nigeria easier.

WACT Managing Director Jeethu Jose made the following statement about how the project will benefit businesses by lowering costs and congestion: “The new gate will improve access and security; facilitate faster cargo movement; and reduce truck turnaround times to under 45 minutes.”

The new in-gate, when used in conjunction with WACT’s Truck Appointment System (TAS), expedites the scheduling and processing of imports, exports, and drop-offs of empty containers. Simultaneously, pre-submission and information verification, along with reduced traffic and quicker truck turnaround times, will lead to lower expenses and increased productivity.

These most recent enhancements are available at a terminal with zero vessel wait times, minimal traffic, and quick in-person customs inspections. Customers can take advantage of a one-stop shop experience as all shipping line offices, customs offices, and banks are housed within the terminal premises. WACT’s investment shows support for Nigeria’s economy and its role in promoting global trade.

West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) is the first greenfield container port constructed in Nigeria under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) concept. The terminal is situated at Onne Port, Rivers State, inside the Oil and Gas Free Zone. It has developed over time into one of the most effective entry points to markets outside of the Lagos region and a key entry point to East Nigeria.
