President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that Saturday’s Osun State governorship election is conducted peacefully, transparently and credibly.
Tinubu gave the directive ahead of the August 15, 2026 poll, with 15 candidates expected to contest the governorship seat.
The President urged all stakeholders involved in the electoral process to uphold the principles of fairness and transparency, stressing the importance of allowing voters to freely exercise their constitutional rights.
He also called on security agencies to maintain professionalism and ensure adequate security throughout the election, while political parties and their supporters were expected to conduct themselves peacefully.
The election has attracted significant national attention as political parties intensify their final preparations ahead of the poll.
Tinubu’s call comes amid heightened concerns over the security and credibility of the election, with stakeholders urging INEC and security agencies to provide a level playing field for all participating candidates.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled to hold across the state on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
