The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday disrupted flight operations at the Lagos airport, leaving passengers scheduled to travel on an Air Peace flight stranded.
The protest began at about 5am, with the Zulu Terminal gate reportedly locked, preventing passengers and airport users from gaining access.
The affected Air Peace flight, scheduled to depart Lagos at 6:30am, was unable to take off as passengers waited amid the disruption.
The development sparked frustration among passengers, some of whom lamented the uncertainty surrounding their travel plans.
One of the affected passengers, who spoke to Daily Trust, said the delay had disrupted his schedule, adding that he could not tell when the flight would eventually depart.
Another passenger said she arrived at the airport early for the 6:30am flight but was left stranded without clear information on when flight operations would resume.
A staff member of Air Peace, who confirmed the incident said, “Yes, it’s true,” but declined to disclose the reason for the protest.
However, an operator familiar with the development said the protest was aimed at enforcing the right of Air Peace employees to join a trade union.
Efforts to reach Air Peace through its customer care line were unsuccessful, as calls to the line were not reachable at the time of filing this report.
The NLC protest has consequently disrupted movement at the airport, leaving affected passengers waiting for further information on when flight operations will resume.
