Osun Election: Opposition Parties Condemn Freezing Of State Accounts, Allege Political Move

Political tension has heightened ahead of the Osun State governorship election following reactions from opposition parties over the reported freezing of state government bank accounts.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have criticised the development, accusing the Federal Government of using financial restrictions as a political tool ahead of the election.

The parties described the move as a threat to democratic fairness and questioned the timing of the action, coming close to the state’s governorship election. They urged relevant authorities to ensure that institutions of government are not used to influence electoral outcomes.

The opposition groups argued that actions affecting the finances of a state government could have implications for governance and public confidence in the electoral process.

However, political developments in Osun have continued to generate strong reactions from different sides, with parties accusing one another of attempts to gain advantage ahead of the poll. Previous disputes in the state have also involved allegations of political tension and electoral concerns from different political actors.

Supporters of the affected parties have called for transparency and adherence to democratic principles, while political observers say disputes involving government institutions and elections often require careful handling to protect public trust.

As the Osun governorship election approaches, political parties are expected to intensify campaigns, mobilise supporters and continue presenting their positions on issues affecting the state.

Analysts say maintaining a level playing field, respect for institutions and peaceful political engagement will be important in ensuring a credible electoral process.
