Apc:Makinde Would Have Nigeria Assets

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at Governor Seyi Makinde over his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, alleging that the governor would have “sold Nigeria’s assets” if he were in Tinubu’s position.

The party said the difference between Makinde and Tinubu “is like the difference between heaven and earth,” insisting that Nigerians were fortunate not to have elected the Oyo governor as president in 2023.

The APC was reacting to remarks made by Makinde on Monday during the unveiling of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) candidates for the 2027 general elections in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Speaking through a representative, the governor expressed confidence that Tinubu could be defeated in the 2027 presidential election.

Responding in a statement issued by its Oyo State Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, the APC said no amount of criticism from Makinde would convince Nigerians to support him, describing the governor as someone who has failed the people of Oyo State.

The party further accused Makinde of transferring state assets to private interests over the past seven years, alleging that he had exchanged them for cash.

“Governor Makinde can afford to condemn the bold and courageous steps taken by President Bola Tinubu in 2023, but informed minds and reputable global institutions have continued to applaud the President for rescuing Nigeria from imminent collapse and working to restore the country’s place among the comity of nations,” the statement read.

The APC also alleged that if Makinde had been president, he would have disposed of key national assets.

“A Makinde who has transferred virtually all the assets of Oyo State to the wrong hands in exchange for cash in seven years would have sold Rivers, Niger and Benue, as well as the nation’s portion of the Atlantic Ocean, if he had the opportunity. Nigerians will never make the mistake of trusting him with their mandate,” the party stated.

Makinde has not publicly responded to the APC’s allegations.
