Akpabio Urges South-South To Deliver Highest Votes For Tinubu

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on political stakeholders and residents of the South-South region to mobilise massive support and deliver the highest number of votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio made the appeal during the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South zonal congress held in Asaba, Delta State. The event brought together governors, party leaders, and delegates from all six states in the oil-rich region, highlighting the growing political strength of the party in the zone.

In his address, the Senate President expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for what he described as renewed recognition of the South-South region. He noted that the emergence of a Senate President from the zone for the first time in decades reflects the party’s commitment to inclusiveness and political balance.

Akpabio stressed that the region must reciprocate this gesture by delivering strong electoral support for the president in the next general election. He challenged party members to remain united and focused, urging them to work collectively to ensure the South-South leads other geopolitical zones in terms of votes.

He further highlighted the rapid growth of the APC in the region, recalling that the party previously controlled only one state in the South-South but now enjoys the support of all six states. According to him, this expansion demonstrates increasing confidence in the party and provides a solid foundation for future electoral success.

Using strong political messaging, Akpabio encouraged party faithful to challenge one another to achieve greater results, insisting that the region should not lag behind despite its current prominence in national politics. He emphasised that unity and coordination among party members would be key to achieving this goal.

The Senate President also commended the leadership of the APC in the region, noting that consistency and strategic coordination have played a major role in strengthening the party’s structure. He urged the newly elected zonal executives to build on this progress by deepening grassroots engagement and expanding membership across communities.

In his remarks, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori described the South-South as a crucial region in Nigeria’s political and economic landscape. He noted that the gathering was not just a routine party meeting but a clear demonstration of unity and preparedness for future elections.

The highlight of the congress was the emergence of new zonal executives through a consensus arrangement, a process party leaders say promotes stability and reduces internal conflicts. Chief Victor Giadom was returned as the APC National Vice Chairman for the South-South, alongside other members of the executive committee.

Political observers view the development as part of broader efforts by the APC to consolidate its influence across the country ahead of the 2027 elections. With increasing alignment among leaders in the South-South, the party appears determined to strengthen its position in a region that has become increasingly significant in national politics.

As preparations for the next election cycle gather momentum, the call by Akpabio underscores the importance of unity, mobilisation, and strategic planning in shaping the outcome of future political contests.
