CAF Awards 2025: Nigeria Stars Dominate Shortlist

Rabat, the Moroccan capital, will play host to the 2025 CAF Awards on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, where Africa’s football greats will be honoured for their achievements over the past year.

According to an official announcement made on Friday, the glamorous evening will kick off at 7 p.m. local time (7 p.m. Nigerian time) and will celebrate the continent’s best players, coaches, clubs, and national teams.

Nigeria is once again in the spotlight, with several of its football stars nominated across key categories.

Nigeria’s Big Names Shine Among Nominees

Leading the list is Victor Osimhen, the reigning African Player of the Year (2023), who is back in the running after another remarkable season abroad.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United has been shortlisted for Goalkeeper of the Year, while teenage defender Daniel Bameyi (Primorje, Slovenia) is nominated for Young Player of the Year.

In the women’s category, the Super Falcons are well represented. Rasheedat Ajibade (Atletico Madrid) and Esther Okoronkwo made the final shortlist for Women’s Player of the Year, while Chiamaka Nnadozie is up for Goalkeeper of the Year.

Men’s Categories

Player of the Year nominees:

Andre Frank Zambo-Anguissa (Cameroon/Napoli), Fiston Mayele (DR Congo/Pyramids), Mohamed Salah (Egypt/Liverpool), Denis Bouanga (Gabon/Los Angeles FC), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea/Borussia Dortmund), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/Paris Saint-Germain), Oussama Lamlioui (Morocco/RS Berkane), Victor Osimhen (Nigeria/Galatasaray), Iliman Ndiaye (Senegal/Everton), Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal/Tottenham Hotspur).

Goalkeeper of the Year nominees:

Andre Onana (Cameroon/Trabzonspor), Vozinha (Cape Verde/Chaves), Ahmed El Shenawy (Egypt/Pyramids), Munir Mohamedi (Morocco/RS Berkane), Yassine Bonou (Morocco/Al Hilal), Stanley Nwabali (Nigeria/Chippa United), Edouard Mendy (Senegal/Al Ahli), Marc Diouf (Senegal/Tengueth), Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns), Aymen Dahmen (Tunisia/CS Sfaxien).

Interclub Player of the Year nominees:

Ismael Belkacemi, Blati Toure, Issoufou Dayo, Fiston Mayele, Ahmed Samy, Emam Ashour, Ibrahim Adel, Mohamed Hrimat, Mohamed Chibi, Oussama Lamlioui, Shomari Kapombe.

Coach of the Year nominees:

Bubista (Cape Verde), Hossam Hassan (Egypt), Krunoslav Jurcic (Pyramids), Sami Trabelsi (Tunisia), Romuald Rakotondrabe (Madagascar CHAN), Moine Chaabani (RS Berkane), Tarik Sektioui (Morocco CHAN), Mohamed Ouahbi (Morocco U-20), Walid Regragui (Morocco), Pape Thiaw (Senegal).

Young Player of the Year nominees:

Asharaf Tapsoba, Alynho Haidara, Noah Sadiki, Abdellah Ouazane, Houssam Essadak, Othmane Maamma, Daniel Bameyi, Momoh Kamara, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Tylon Smith.
