Nigeria’s hurdle sensation, Tobi Amusan, shone brightly at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, securing a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles.
She raced to a time of 12.29 seconds, finishing just behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who claimed the title in 12.24s, setting a new national record. The bronze went to America’s Grace Stark, who clocked 12.34s.
The medal marked Amusan’s first return to the world podium since capturing her third Diamond League crown in 2023. In the years between, she had experienced disappointments — placing sixth in Budapest 2023 while attempting to defend her crown, and missing the final altogether at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
At 28 years old, Amusan was filled with excitement after her latest triumph. Taking to Instagram, she thanked her coaches for pushing her limits and guiding her through moments of doubt. She described the medal as a product of relentless training and the collective sacrifice of her team.
She acknowledged the behind-the-scenes support of trainers, medical experts, and nutritionists, and also gave credit to her family, mentors, and close friends for their constant encouragement. Her final words were reserved for her loyal fan base, as she proudly dedicated the medal to them, calling it her “Golden Silver.”
This achievement pushes Nigeria’s total collection at the World Championships to 12 medals, while also placing Amusan in elite company as only the third Nigerian — after Ese Brume and Blessing Okagbare — to claim multiple medals at the prestigious competition.
Beyond the statistics, Amusan’s journey is a reflection of resilience and perseverance. Despite the setbacks of the last two years, she has proven her ability to rise stronger, reminding the world that champions are defined not only by their victories but also by how they respond to adversity.
Her silver medal also carries symbolic weight for Nigerian athletics, serving as an inspiration for upcoming athletes who dream of making their mark on the global stage. With her story of persistence and courage, Amusan continues to embody hope for a new generation of sports stars.
