On August 17, 2025, Rev. Michael Ukpong, the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, publicly endorsed Governor Alex Otti for a second term, stating that his achievements in just two years have already secured him widespread support.
Ukpong praised Otti’s infrastructural strides, especially the rehabilitation of the Igwu (Omenuko) Bridge and the Arochukwu–Ohafia Road, calling them previously “impossible” projects. He declared that any campaigns to unseat Otti in 2027 are “a waste of time,” citing the governor’s visible work as his best campaign. The bishop humorously suggested that if constitutionally possible, Otti should be allowed to serve a third or fourth term. Otti, in response, emphasized his administration’s commitment to stewardship and service, highlighting progress made without borrowing funds, except for future development bank loans to be used only when necessary.
