24 Fighter Jets Set to Arrive Nigeria
The Nigerian government, in a determined bid to combat insurgency and stem the tide of banditry and kidnapping , is ready to buy at least 24 fighter jets from Italy to boost the country’s air force.
Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Nigerian Air Force spokesperson, disclosed this on Friday. The aircraft would arrive in the country in batches of four, six jets each, according to Sahara Reporters.
The Air Force reported, “Africa’s most populous nation will receive the first six M-346 fighter aircraft before the end of the year.” The news came in the wake of the visit of Leonardo’s vice president, Claudio Sabatino, to Nigeria’s air force chief in Abuja on Wednesday. Leonardo will provide a minimum of 25 years of maintenance support, Air Force statement read.
