The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have pledged to tackle insecurity and address other challenges confronting Nigerians if elected in the 2027 general elections.
The candidates made the commitment during a town hall meeting held in Kaduna on Saturday, where they engaged party members, supporters and other participants on issues affecting the country.
Speaking on insecurity, Obi said their proposed administration would take appropriate measures to address security challenges and create conditions that would enable Nigerians displaced by violence to safely return to their homes, communities and farms.
He also linked youth unemployment to some of the security challenges facing the country, stressing the need to create jobs and expand economic opportunities for young Nigerians.
The meeting also featured discussions on education, electricity, drug abuse, corruption and the operations of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Obi said his administration would review the EFCC’s operational system, emphasising the importance of due process and the rule of law in the commission’s activities.
The former Anambra State governor further called on political candidates to engage directly with Nigerians and avoid making unrealistic campaign promises.
Kwankwaso, meanwhile, encouraged citizens to participate in the electoral process as the party continues its engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
