The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has deployed additional personnel and resources to Rivers State to bolster security, protect lives and property, and secure critical infrastructure. This move follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, which suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly for six months.
The deployed operatives will work with the Armed Forces and other security agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the state. Egbetokun reassures citizens that while individuals have the right to seek legal redress, any unlawful gatherings, protests, or activities that threaten public peace will be met with the full force of the law.
The Nigeria Police Force emphasizes that aggrieved individuals retain the right to seek legal redress through the appropriate judicial channels. Citizens are urged to remain law-abiding, comply with all legal directives, and continue their daily activities without fear.
The police force remains committed to ensuring peace and stability, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may compromise public safety. Individuals or groups with criminal intent are warned to stay away from Rivers State, as security forces are prepared to take decisive action against any threats to peace and stability.
This development comes after President Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (retd) as the Sole Administrator for Rivers State. The situation is being closely monitored, with many calling for calm and respect for the rule of law.
