Tinubu Did Not Promise to End Poverty Within Specific Period – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over the persistent economic hardship in Nigeria, insisting that he never promised to eradicate poverty within a specific period after assuming office.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made the clarification on Tuesday while appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme.

Morka argued that Tinubu did not promise to eliminate poverty within his first 100 days, two years or three years in office, adding that his campaign commitments were not tied to a fixed deadline.

According to him, critics should not interpret the president’s promises as a guarantee that poverty would be completely eradicated within a particular timeframe.

He maintained that even some of the world’s wealthiest countries had yet to eliminate poverty despite years of economic development.

Morka urged Nigerians to assess the administration’s efforts against the broader economic challenges facing the country, arguing that addressing deeply rooted problems would require time and sustained policy implementation.

He further stated that a president’s first term provides an opportunity to understand national challenges, develop strategies and begin implementing solutions, while a possible second term could allow for the continuation of those policies.

The APC’s defence comes amid growing public concerns over the rising cost of living and the impact of the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms on households.

Tinubu recently launched his re-election campaign in Kaduna State, where he blamed opposition politicians for the hunger and poverty confronting Nigerians and promised prosperity if returned to office in 2027.

The president’s remarks have continued to fuel debate over his administration’s economic performance and its responsibility for the hardship experienced by citizens.
