The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarrett Tenebe, has renewed his attack on former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, declaring his hatred for the opposition politician and making a series of disturbing remarks about what he would do if they met.
Tenebe made the comments during a recent interview while defending President Bola Tinubu’s administration and responding to criticism from opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the interview, the Edo APC chairman said he would spit in the faces of Obi and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar over their criticisms of the president.
Speaking specifically about Obi, Tenebe said his dislike for the former governor was personal and insisted that he had no intention of changing his position.
“If I see them, I will spit in their faces,” he said.
He added that he hated Obi and threatened to bite his nose or ear if he encountered him, remarks that have further drawn attention to the increasingly heated exchanges among political figures.
Tenebe also questioned Obi’s political alliance with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who is identified in the report as his running mate under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
He argued that the politicians held conflicting positions on certain issues and questioned how they would work together to govern the country.
“How can he want to be president with someone I consider his oppressor as his running mate? If the two of them cannot agree on what should be in a glass, how can they govern Nigeria?” he asked.
The APC chairman also criticised Atiku, explaining that his current disagreement with the former vice-president was largely linked to Atiku’s criticism of Tinubu.
“I do not like Atiku at the moment because he is insulting the president. But I hate Peter Obi because he is not genuine,” Tenebe said.
Tenebe Defends ‘AK-47 Fire’ Remark
During the interview, Tenebe also defended his earlier controversial reference to “AK-47 fire”, which attracted criticism over its violent undertones.
He denied that the statement was a threat to shoot political opponents, arguing that he had expressed a wish against those he considered his enemies rather than announcing an intention to attack anyone.
Tenebe compared the expression to the Christian phrase “Holy Ghost fire”, insisting that his remarks had been misunderstood.
He further argued that he had not threatened to shoot anyone with an AK-47 rifle and maintained that he had never advocated violence against political opponents.
APC Targets 2.5 Million Votes for Tinubu in Edo
On the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, Tenebe expressed confidence that the APC could secure 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in Edo State.
He claimed that the party recorded 2,158,600 votes across the state’s 18 local government areas during the most recent local government election.
According to him, the APC needs approximately 400,000 additional votes to reach its target.
Tenebe attributed the party’s projected performance to the administration of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and the party’s mobilisation efforts.
He also disclosed that the APC had identified more than one million registered voters from Edo State living outside the state and was exploring arrangements to transport them home to participate in the 2027 election.
The chairman said the party was considering chartered flights and road transportation, adding that supporters and businesspeople had offered assistance.
He urged residents to support APC candidates at both state and federal levels, arguing that electoral victories would help advance the party’s political and administrative objectives.
Tenebe maintained that the APC would campaign on the benefits of Tinubu’s policies, including the removal of the fuel subsidy, which he argued had increased allocations to state governments.
His latest comments come amid heightened political activity and growing exchanges between ruling-party officials and opposition figures as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
