Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has clarified his position on fuel subsidy, distancing himself from an earlier statement made by one of his press aides.
In a post on his official X account, Atiku said the aide’s position did not reflect his personal stance on the issue.
He reaffirmed his commitment to restoring the fuel subsidy, insisting that Nigeria has sufficient resources to cater to the welfare of its citizens.
“Earlier, one of my press aides contradicted me in a policy statement as far as subsidy is concerned. I want to repeat categorically that when I said I would return to subsidy, I will!” Atiku said.
“Nigeria is rich enough to look after the welfare of its citizens. Let it be clearly stated that he was not speaking on my own authority.”
The clarification confirms that restoring fuel subsidy remains part of Atiku’s stated policy position.
