Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.), has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign while maintaining his focus on Nigeria’s national security priorities.
Musa expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence placed in him and reiterated his determination to contribute to the administration’s efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture.
The minister’s position comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify, with the APC already putting structures in place for its presidential campaign.
Musa emphasised that national security remains a major responsibility that requires sustained attention, coordination and commitment from government and security institutions.
He noted the importance of protecting Nigerians and creating an environment where citizens can live and conduct their businesses without fear.
The Defence Ministry has continued to emphasise cooperation among the Armed Forces and other security agencies in addressing emerging threats across the country.
Musa’s comments also come against the backdrop of President Tinubu’s recent directive for the preparation of a comprehensive National Threat Assessment and a five-year Strategic Defence Operations Plan. The plan is intended to improve coordination among Nigeria’s defence, intelligence and security agencies.
According to the Presidency, the proposed framework will identify major threats facing the country, establish operational priorities and determine the capabilities required to address security challenges effectively.
The initiative is expected to provide a more coordinated approach to national defence and guide future security spending and procurement.
The Defence Minister has therefore continued to stress the importance of a coordinated response to insecurity and other threats facing the nation.
As preparations for the 2027 election gather momentum, political parties are also working to strengthen their campaign structures across the country.
The APC has constituted its presidential campaign council, with former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari appointed as Director-General. President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are to serve as chairman and vice chairman respectively.
The intersection between political activities and national security has made the role of security institutions particularly important during the election period.
The government is expected to continue working with relevant agencies to ensure that political activities take place in a secure environment.
Musa’s reaffirmation is therefore likely to attract attention as the APC prepares for the 2027 campaign while the Federal Government continues to pursue measures aimed at improving national security.
