President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with the appointment taking effect from August 27, 2026.
Enitan, who is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, will succeed Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
According to the Presidency, Enitan is from Osun State and is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has spent seven years and seven months at the rank of Permanent Secretary.
During his career, Enitan has served in several strategic government institutions, including the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President, before his current posting to the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Presidency said his extensive experience across different areas of government has given him considerable institutional knowledge and a strong understanding of the operations of the Federal Civil Service.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service, Walson-Jack, for her years of service and contributions to reforms and innovations within the Civil Service.
The President also wished her a successful retirement and commended her dedication to public service.
Tinubu tasked Enitan with consolidating the reforms and innovations already underway in the Federal Civil Service. He also urged the incoming Head of Service to strengthen professionalism, efficiency and accountability across the system.
The President further called on Enitan to build a Civil Service that is professional, merit-driven, innovative and responsive to the needs of Nigerians.
The appointment comes at a time when the Federal Government is seeking to improve efficiency and service delivery across government institutions.
As Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Enitan will oversee the administrative machinery of the federal government and play a key role in implementing policies and reforms affecting public servants.
His appointment is therefore expected to attract attention from civil servants and other stakeholders who will be watching how the new Head of Service approaches ongoing reforms.
The transition will formally take effect on August 27, following the retirement of Walson-Jack.
