Traditional rulers and community leaders in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State have endorsed the governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The monarchs expressed their support during an engagement with the APC candidate, pledging to mobilise residents and work towards securing victory for him in the forthcoming election. They described Oyebamiji as a capable leader with the experience needed to contribute to the development of Osun State.
The traditional leaders said their decision was based on their assessment of the candidate’s background, leadership experience and commitment to public service. They called on residents of Irewole and other parts of the state to participate actively in the electoral process and support candidates with credible development plans.
Responding to the endorsement, Oyebamiji appreciated the monarchs and community stakeholders for their confidence in his candidacy. He promised to run an inclusive administration that would prioritise the interests of all communities across Osun State if elected.
The APC candidate assured the people that his administration would focus on economic growth, improved infrastructure, empowerment programmes and policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents. He also appealed for peaceful participation as political activities continue ahead of the election.
The endorsement adds to the growing political activities in Osun State as parties intensify campaigns and consultations ahead of the governorship poll. Political stakeholders have continued to seek support from traditional institutions, community groups and other influential bodies as preparations for the election progress.
Analysts say endorsements from traditional rulers often attract attention because of their influence within local communities. However, they note that the final outcome of elections depends on the decisions of voters during the polls.
The development is expected to generate further reactions from political parties and supporters as the contest for the Osun governorship seat continues to gather momentum. Stakeholders have urged all political actors to maintain peaceful campaigns and focus on issues affecting the people.
As the 2026 election approaches, political activities across Osun State are expected to increase, with candidates seeking wider support and presenting their visions for the future of the state.
