The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that nine registered political parties have collected access codes required to upload the particulars of their presidential and National Assembly candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC’s National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Malam Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Haruna said that, as of the close of business on Monday, the nine political parties that had obtained the access codes were Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He explained that it is the responsibility of each political party participating in the elections to apply for and collect the access code from the commission, stressing that INEC does not distribute the codes directly to party secretariats.
According to him, any individual seeking to obtain the code on behalf of a political party must present a letter of authorisation from the party’s leadership.
Haruna noted that the commission had already issued detailed guidelines for candidate nominations and trained political party officials on the nomination process. He urged parties to comply strictly with the established procedures.
He also cautioned political parties against delaying the submission of their nomination forms until the final deadline.
“INEC has been generous by extending the deadline from the close of work to midnight of the deadline date. If any political party decides to wait until the deadline, INEC cannot be blamed for that,” he said.
According to the commission’s timetable for the 2027 general election, political parties are expected to submit the nomination forms of their presidential and National Assembly candidates through INEC’s designated online portal between June 27 and July 11.
The timetable further provides that the submission of nomination forms for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates will take place from July 18 to August 8.
