Factional Labour Party National Vice Chairman (South West), Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has not reached the final stage of his political journey despite reports linking him with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Arabambi argued that Nigeria’s political environment remains dynamic and unpredictable, making it difficult for any politician to assume they have secured a permanent political base.
According to him, Obi’s reported political realignment does not guarantee long-term stability, noting that further political developments could alter the current landscape. He warned that leaving an established party structure does not automatically translate into political security, adding that politicians must continue to navigate the challenges and competition that characterize Nigerian politics.
Arabambi further argued that political actors who weaken party platforms cannot simply move on without consequences, stressing that internal party dynamics and resistance would eventually catch up with such decisions.
He maintained that no aspirant can impose themselves on the political system without securing broad acceptance from Nigerians, emphasizing that electoral success is ultimately determined by public trust and support rather than political maneuvering.
The Labour Party chieftain also stressed that governance credibility, accountability, and a firm commitment to fighting corruption remain the key factors that influence electoral outcomes, rather than party defections or strategic political alignments.
His remarks come amid growing speculation over political realignments ahead of future elections, as political parties and key stakeholders continue to position themselves within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
