The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the backing of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports suggesting that the party is in alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking in an interview with Punch, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that the party remains focused on defeating the APC in the 2027 general elections.
“Some people have continued to make claims that the PDP is in alliance with the APC, but such statements are mischievous,” he said.
Mohammed argued that the current political realities do not support such allegations, especially considering the internal challenges within the APC and the growing number of defections into the PDP.
“We have no alliance or romance with the APC. The PDP is on its own, and our target is to defeat the APC. And we will defeat the APC come 2027,” he stated.
He also disclosed that the party’s screening and nomination process for the 2027 elections has been progressing smoothly, with aspirants from various states already returning their nomination forms.
According to him, the screening of aspirants is set to commence immediately, with some exercises taking place in different states, while governorship and presidential aspirants will be screened at Legacy House. He clarified that no screening exercise would take place at the party secretariat.
“So far, the process has been highly commendable and is progressing smoothly,” he said.
Mohammed further revealed that several governorship aspirants from states such as Plateau, Taraba, Nasarawa, and Bauchi have already submitted their forms, noting that the exercise has recorded strong participation and enthusiasm from party members.
“The exercise has been smooth, with no hitches. Aspirants have shown great enthusiasm, happiness, and confidence in the process,” he added.
He expressed optimism about the outcome of the primaries and the party’s chances in the 2027 elections, stating that the PDP remains hopeful of a successful electoral outing.
